Minutes March 16, 2010

The meeting was called to order by Amy, with Amy, Joan, Donna, Jennifer, Gay, Lorna, Janet, Carl, Shirley and Carol Marquardt in attendance. The minutes will be filed. The Treasurer's report showed a balance on hand as of February 28 of $4,907.68. Expenses of $1913.66 were for a display cube, raffle tickets and Book Page. Income was $2822.00 from memberships, donations and raffle ticket sales. This report will be filed for audit.

In old business: Thanks were give to all who helped with the raffle. About 3,000 tickets were sold and 87 prizes awarded. Shirley suggested another raffle be held next year. The art club reception was held with art club members serving refreshments.

In new business: Brat fry dates are May 7, June 11 and July 30. Shirley said they would take care of these dates. Sept. 19 or Saturday of Falls Fun Fest is still open. The Friends will reserve this date and look for volunteers to man the booth.

Gay made a motion to increase the scholarships to $200 each for a boy and a girl. Lorna seconded it.

Joan's Wish List included $60 for paint in Children's Area, $400 for large print books, $400 for 4 cases of audio book covers, $400 for Hallmark Videos, and a reasonable amount for name tags and t-shirt set up to be determined by Joan. Donna made the motion to approve these items. Janet seconded. M/S/C

Joan also talked about buying rugs for the entry way as they cost $70/month to clean. The rugs would be $381. Jennifer made a motion, seconded by Lorna to buy the rugs. Joan will clean. M/S/C

Donna, Joan and Jennifer will help Amy with garden if she calls in advance.

Laura will make signs for the float to go with Summer Reading Program "Make a Splash". Dessarts will provide the pontoon. Library staff will look for children to ride the float. Friends will purchase candy. Volunteers are needed to walk along and hand out book markers.

Joan has had extension office do programs on gardening in the afternoons. Well attended. Upcoming programs will be on chickens, service dogs and water retrieving for dogs.

Joan thinks there are not many books for the book sale. Friends suggested she put up signs asking for donations with a spring cleaning theme.

A newsletter done by Cherie will go out with the April Utility Bill. Joan would like the Friends to have a blog linked to the Library blog. Gay will look into this. The new library web site is ocontofallslibrary.org. This will not come up on Google yet.

Next meeting date is August 10th. Jennifer made a motion to adjourn, Carl seconded. M/S/C
